Labor’s Voice: Insurrection, Impeachment, and Inauguration
In the first weeks of 2021, we have witnessed historical events occur in the United States. We witnessed a historic victory in Georgia which flipped the U.S. Senate, and in quick succession, we witnessed insurrection, impeachment, and the Inauguration. On Monday, we celebrated the birth and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Join us and the LA County Federation of Labor on Thursday, January 21, to discuss these important events in another episode of Labor’s Voice! What are the lessons from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as we celebrate the week of his birth? What do we hope for the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris administration in the midst of a pandemic and political crisis? How can the labor movement build on the momentum from the election victories to promote an agenda for change and progress?
Speakers:
- Kent Wong, Director of the UCLA Labor Center
- Reverend James Lawson, Jr.
- Tefere Gebre, Executive Vice President, AFL-CIO
- Susan Minato, Co-President, UNITE HERE Local 11
