Workers at Los Angeles Sweet Flower Cannabis Dispensaries Unionize with UFCW
Employees at four Los Angeles-area cannabis dispensaries operated by Sweet Flower announced that they have won union recognition with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 770.
The certification marks the latest in a string of wins for cannabis workers in Southern California following recent successful UFCW 770 union drives at STIIIZY, Catalyst, and Perfect Union.
About 70 workers at Sweet Flower’s Los Angeles dispensaries will now begin the process of negotiating their first union contract. Unionized cannabis workers at other retail dispensaries across Los Angeles have achieved annual wage increases, improvements to employer-paid health insurance and other benefits, and a voice on the job.
“We are very pleased to welcome Sweet Flower workers into our union,” said Local 770 President John Grant. “We look forward to continuing to build a partnership with the company that will ensure Sweet Flower and its employees grow and thrive together.”
Sweet Flower recently received the green light to open it’s fifth Los Angeles-area dispensary, which will be located in Culver City. The company has entered into a Labor Peace Agreement with UFCW Local 770 that provides a path for workers there to also join the union if they choose to.
UFCW is America’s largest cannabis worker union, representing over 10,000 cannabis workers across the country.
