A Year of UFCW 770 Solidarity and Strength: A Message from President Kathy Finn
2024 was a year of historic fights - and historic wins. We proved once again that when we come together in solidarity and strength to build worker power, we all win.
Our relentless efforts to stop the Kroger-Albertsons merger, through testimonies, meetings, protests, and media engagement, resulted in a significant win for grocery store workers by preventing a repeat of the store closures and job losses that followed the merger of Safeway and Albertsons in 2015 and many other previous merger deals. This victory has refocused our efforts on advocating for better stores with affordable prices, improved wages, safety and staffing.
Additionally, our many contract wins this year, from historic gains at Food 4 Less, Rite Aid, an unprecedented strike at CVS, the recently won contract at Food Maxx, first contract wins at Eaze and La Colombe, showcase the strength of our union.
In the political arena, everywhere 770 members could make a difference, we did. We demonstrated our impact resulting in ejecting someone who didn’t respect workers’ rights, and electing pro-worker candidate George Whitesides to Congress.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will be negotiating the Major Food Agreement, impacting Ralphs, Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions, Stater Brothers, Gelson's, and Super A. Our preparations for these negotiations include steward conferences and campaigns tailored to the unique needs of our members.
The El Super contract also expires next year in April. These members have a separate contract from the major food agreement. We are planning a different kind of campaign, collaborating with both union and non-union stores, and will provide updates as the situation develops.
Also coming up in 2025, Kaiser members, who work tirelessly to provide essential healthcare services, are preparing to fight for a fair contract that reflects their value and dedication to patients.
Furthermore, we have several packinghouse contracts expiring next year at Overhill Farms, Baker Commodities, and Darling, affecting some of our rendering plants. Our commitment to securing favorable outcomes remains unwavering.
As we celebrate our 2024 achievements and anticipate the challenges ahead, let us remember that our solidarity is the key to success. I wish you and your families happy holidays and I look forward to working together in the new year!

Año de Solidaridad y Fortaleza de UFCW 770: Un Mensaje de la Presidenta Kathy Finn
2024 fue un año de luchas históricas y victorias históricas. Demostramos una vez más que cuando nos unimos en solidaridad y fuerza para construir el poder de los trabajadores, todos ganamos.
Nuestros incansables esfuerzos para detener la fusión de Kroger-Albertsons, a través de testimonios, reuniones, protestas y participación en los medios, resultaron en una victoria significativa para los trabajadores de las tiendas de comestibles al evitar que se repitieran los cierres de tiendas y las pérdidas de empleos que siguieron a la fusión de Safeway y Albertsons en 2015 y muchos otros acuerdos de fusión anteriores. Esta victoria ha reorientado nuestros esfuerzos en la defensa de mejores tiendas con precios asequibles, mejores salarios, seguridad y personal.
Además, nuestras numerosas victorias contractuales este año, desde ganancias históricas en Food 4 Less, Rite Aid, una huelga sin precedentes en CVS, el contrato recientemente ganado en Food Maxx, las primeras victorias contractuales en Eaze y La Colombe, muestran la fuerza de nuestro sindicato.

El contrato de El Super también vence el año próximo en abril. Estos miembros tienen un contrato separado del acuerdo alimentario principal. Estamos planeando un tipo diferente de campaña, colaborando con tiendas sindicalizadas y no sindicalizadas, y brindaremos actualizaciones a medida que se desarrolle la situación.
También en 2025, los miembros de Kaiser, que trabajan incansablemente para brindar servicios de atención médica esenciales, se están preparando para luchar por un contrato justo que refleje su valor y dedicación a los pacientes.
Además, tenemos varios contratos de empaque que vencen el año próximo en Overhill Farms, Baker Commodities y Darling, lo que afectará a algunas de nuestras plantas de procesamiento. Nuestro compromiso de asegurar resultados favorables sigue siendo inquebrantable.
