Equator Coffees Workers Join Local 770 For Fair Wages & Benefits!
On March 24, baristas, shift leads, and prep cooks at Equator Coffees in Los Angeles voted to unionize with UFCW Local 770, demanding better pay, stable schedules, and a voice at work. Their inspiring campaign showed the power of solidarity—now, they’re ready to negotiate their first union contract.
Workers were concerned about insufficient pay and scheduling and wanted a voice in the workplace. The campaign to organize these workers included in-person meetings about the benefits of belonging to a union, including around the better wages and benefits that come with a union contract.
The workers are happy to be a part of our union and looking forward to negotiating their first union contract.
“Our win is not only a contract, but a testimony on when you and your colleagues stand in solidarity with the power of collective passion,” said Richard Urquidez. “This victory is the first sip of the fairer future where we look forward to working with dignity and respect.”
“In winning this election, my hope is that it ignites a fire within the coffee community,” said Chloe Manus. “Before the UFCW, the idea of unionization seemed impossible. I knew that my co-workers and I deserved more than what was being ‘offered’ to us by our company. We understand the fight never ends, but this is where it begins. Laborers are the backbone of society and without us the world would stop. I refuse to let the corrupt corporate agenda slowly destroy the working class. Unionize workers now !”
“Upon the win of our union election, I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my co-workers as we come together to address our needs for steady hours, work meals, and a livable wage,” said Nicole Territo. “This victory is a step toward a stronger, more supportive workplace, and I’m looking forward to working together to make meaningful changes for all of us. Let’s elevate the specialty coffee narrative from social justice buzzwords to bold actions that honor both coffee quality and the fight for justice.”
“True social justice requires tangible improvements in wages, benefits, and working conditions, and that workers ourselves must be empowered to advocate for these improvements,” said Chevy Evangelista.

El 24 de marzo, baristas, jefes de turno y cocineros de preparación de Equator Coffees en Los Ángeles votaron a favor de ser parte de nuestra unión UFCW Local 770, exigiendo mejores salarios, horarios estables y voz en el trabajo. Su inspiradora campaña demostró el poder de la solidaridad; ahora están listos para negociar su primer contrato con Unión.
Los trabajadores estaban preocupados por la insuficiencia de salarios y horarios y querían voz en el lugar de trabajo. La campaña para organizar a estos trabajadores incluyó reuniones presenciales sobre los beneficios de pertenecer a un sindicato, incluyendo mejores sueldos y beneficios que conlleva un contrato sindical.
Los trabajadores están felices de formar parte de nuestro sindicato y esperan con ansias negociar su primer contrato con unión.
“Nuestra victoria no es solo un contrato, sino un testimonio de la solidaridad que nosotros y nuestros colegas demuestran con el poder de la pasión colectiva”, dijo Richard Urquidez. “Esta victoria es el primer sorbo de un futuro más justo donde esperamos trabajar con dignidad y respeto”.
“Al ganar estas elecciones, espero que se encienda un nuevo fuego en la comunidad cafetera”, dijo Chloe Manus. “Antes de la UFCW, la idea de sindicalizarnos parecía imposible. Sabía que mis compañeros y yo merecíamos más de lo que nuestra empresa nos ofrecía. Entendemos que la lucha nunca termina, pero aquí es donde comienza. Los trabajadores son la columna vertebral de la sociedad y sin nosotros el mundo se detendría. Me niego a permitir que la agenda corporativa corrupta destruya lentamente a la clase trabajadora. ¡Sindicalicemos a los trabajadores ya!”
“Tras la victoria en nuestras elecciones sindicales, estoy increíblemente agradecida por el apoyo de mis compañeros mientras nos unimos para abordar nuestras necesidades de horarios fijos, comidas de trabajo y un salario digno”, dijo Nicole Territo. “Esta victoria es un paso hacia un lugar de trabajo más fuerte y solidario, y espero trabajar juntos para lograr cambios significativos para todos. Elevemos la narrativa del café de especialidad de las palabras de moda de justicia social a acciones audaces que honren tanto la calidad del café como la lucha por la justicia”.
“La verdadera justicia social requiere mejoras tangibles en los salarios, los beneficios y las condiciones de trabajo, y que los propios trabajadores tengan el poder de abogar por estas mejoras”, dijo Chevy Evangelista.
