FOOD 4 LESS negotiations update
Despite the fact that our contract expires tomorrow, Food4Less / Foods Co. spent the first day of bargaining offering very minimal changes that don’t bring us closer to getting a contract that reflects our value and hard work. We have been very clear with the company for months: we want to reach a deal by 5pm on June 8th, and that time is approaching quickly. Today we’re still in the middle of another long day at the bargaining table, where we’ve told the company that we don’t have time to play games.
We need to see real progress including securing adequate wages, increasing the minimum number of hours we’re guaranteed each week, and protecting our work from outside vendors. It takes far too long to get a raise, and when we do, it's pennies. Over the next few days, the company will try to convince us that they’re offering us a good deal, that we don’t deserve as much as our peers at other grocery stores, and that they can keep their stores running without us.
But we know that’s not true. We are the workers who keep their shelves stocked, their food fresh, their customers happy, and their profits high. When the Food 4 Less / Foods Co. executives walk into the room to negotiate with us, they’re met with dozens of their own workers from stores across California. And we’re at this table prepared to negotiate a fair contract now.

We’ll be in touch again tomorrow as soon as we’re done with bargaining for the day.

ACTUALIZACIÓN SOBRE NEGOCIACIONES DE CONTRATO DE FOOD 4 LESS
A pesar de que nuestro contrato vence mañana, Food4Less / Foods Co. se pasó el primer día de esta última ronda de negociaciones ofreciendo cambios mínimos que no nos acercan para lograr un contrato que refleje nuestro valor y duro trabajo. Hemos sido muy claros con la compañía durante meses: queremos alcanzar un acuerdo para el 8 de junio a las 5pm y esa fecha límite se está acercando rápidamente. Hoy estamos todavía en otro largo día en la mesa de negociaciones, en el que hemos dicho a la compañía que no tenemos tiempo de juegos.
Necesitamos ver un avance real incluyendo asegurar salarios adecuados, aumentar el número mínimo de horas que se nos garantizan cada semana y proteger nuestro trabajo de vendedores externos. Toma demasiado tiempo para agarrar un aumento y cuando lo recibimos, sólo son centavos. En los próximos días, la compañía va a tratar de convencernos que ellos nos están ofreciendo un buen trato, que no merecemos tanto como nuestros colegas en otras tiendas de supermercado y que ellos pueden mantener sus tiendas operando sin nosotros.
Pero nosotros sabemos que eso no es cierto. Nosotros somos los trabajadores que mantenemos sus estantes llenos, su comida fresca, sus clientes contentos y sus ganancias altas. Cuando los ejecutivos de Food 4 Less / Foods Co. entran al salón para negociar con nosotros, ellos se encuentran con docenas de sus propios trabajadores de las tiendas de todo California. ¡Y nosotros estamos en esta mesa de negociaciones preparados para negociar un contrato justo ahora!
